There are Grammar Nerds out there...
I've suddenly become hyperaware of my grammar. Dave Cowan's Grammar Nerd post was, both; funny, and, amusing. I don't have the same reaction to bad grammar that he does, but that's mainly because most of the time I wouldn't know good grammar from bad. Sure I've got the basics down; tense, possessives, plurals, etc. But much beyond that, I'm lost.
Now that I've started to blog, however, I find myself worrying about grammar more than I have in years. Maybe ever. It's different from email because I know the person I'm sending email to, and, they are usually very forgiving. Since I haven't any idea who might be reading this blog, I've got to be extra careful.
One thing I will admit two is being a terrible speller. When I say terrible, I mean really bad. I've got a serious mental block when it comes to spelling certain words. I misspell the same words every time I write them (sence, sense?). Why is that? I read the confession of Steve Hendrix of the Washington Post and could relate.
This is one of the reasons I won't send email from my phone. I'll be revealed as the spelling fraud that I am.
It's strange that even though I am a rotten speller, I have absolutely no tolerance for bad spelling. I'm embarrassed for them because I know if I can tell when a word is misspelled, they've got to be worse than me. How hard is it to run a spell check? Give me a break. That nifty Firefox Dictionary Search makes it even easier.
I think I'll get over my worries about bad grammar on this blog, but until then I'll have Struk and White by my side.
